KASHAN SCHOOLNET PROJECT
The Kashan Schoolnet Project is part of Schoolnet Iran - anationwide project for networking Iranians schools, directed and supportedby SAF.
Partner: SAF's local partner inthis project and the host of the city's School Information Center (alreadyestablished) is KashanUniversity .

The School Information Center hosted at Kashan University acts asInternet Service Provider and tech-support center for all schools undercoverage in Kashan.
Total expenses for connecting 10 schools in Kashan will therefore be $118,750 for the first year, and $25,000 for each subsequentyear.

Project Technical Details
Internet Connectivity: High speedInternet connectivity has been provided through a satellite dish fordownlink, and a leased data line for uplink. Schools will connect to thecenter either via dedicated leased lines or dialup.
Kashan School Information Center : Thiscenter, hosted at Kashan University, acts as a local ISP for schools inthe province, and currently consists of:
- Three Pentium III servers with UPS
- One router (Cisco 2610 or higher) with internal modems
- 16 telephone lines
- One leased line for data uplink
- One satellite dish for data downlink
- Four Pentium III workstations
School Internet Site Requirements: Each school computer lab with Internet connectivity will need
- One Pentium III server
- 10 Pentium III workstations
- One dedicated leased line
- One modem
- One UPS
- Computer desks, chairs, and other related equipment
Educational Programs for Teachers: At least two computer teachers from each connected school inKashan will receive training on networking and Internet use duringworkshops organized by SAF.
Mirroring Internet Resources: Oneof the main servers at the Kashan School Information Center will mirrorthe main Schoolnetsite for fast and easy access to its resources by the students. Webpages for each school, and the Kashan School Information Center will alsobe designed.
