SHIRAZ SCHOOLNET PROJECT

The Shiraz Schoolnet Project is part of Schoolnet Iran - anationwide project for networking Iranians schools, directed andsupported by SAF.

Partner: SAF's local partner inthis project and the host of the city's School Information Center is ShirazUniversity of Medical Sciences .

Estimates for expenses related to the Shiraz Schoolnet Projectare:

  1. School Information Center
    • Internet connection fee (annual): $18,750
    • Equipment: $20,000
  2. School sites
    • Equipment: $11,250
  3. Technical support: $6,250
    (hardware and software - annual)

The School Information Center acts as Internet Service Provider andtech-support center for all schools under coverage in Fars.

Total expenses for connecting 10 schools in Shiraz will therefore be $160,000 for the first year, and $25,000 for each subsequent year.

Match funding: We have a generousdonor who matches every Dollar you donate .Any amount you contribute towards the Shiraz Schoolnet Project willtherefore be doubled and spent entirely on the project.

 

Project Technical Details

Internet Connectivity: High speedInternet connectivity will be provided through a satellite dish fordownlink, and a leased data line for uplink. Schools will connect to thecenter either via dedicated leased lines or dialup.

School Information Center Requirements: The Shiraz School Information Center, which will act as alocal ISP for schools in the province currently requires the followingitems:

Educational Programs for Teachers: At least two computer teachers from each connected school inShiraz will receive training on networking and Internet use duringworkshops organized by SAF.

Mirroring Internet Resources: Oneof the main servers at the Shiraz School Information Center will mirrorthe main Schoolnet site for fastand easy access to its resources by the students. Web pages for eachschool, and the Shiraz School Information Center will also bedesigned.
