Completed Projects in Tehran

During three years of activities in Tehran, SAF has equipped the following schools and organizations with modern computer sites and Internet connectivity.
A. Schools
Roshd High School for boys in Naazi-Abad, a deprived area in the south of the capital, was selected as SAF's first project in Iran based on its high academic achievements. For details of selection criteria and the aggrement please click here.
Classes for principles and administrators are usually held on Thursdays and Fridays and are always exceptionally well attended by an enthusiastic group (photos).
A gathering of all 81 schools of Schoolnet (nationwide) is held every year and is attended by all school principals, administrators, and computer teachers, as well as many students (photos). Regular school visits and meetings between school administrators and SAF personnel take place as well (photos).
Of the 38 equipped and connected schools below, half are girls schools.
B. Orphanages
C. Educational Centers
Through assistance provided by SAF, and co-funding donations by the Jephcott Charitable Trust ($14,200), and the Reuters Foundation ($11,600), two fully equipped computer labs with Internet access have been set up at Tehran Medical School, Iran's oldest medical school with over 4,000 students. The project was completed in December 2000. The provided equipment includes:
These have been used to equip two computer rooms, each with six workstations, a laser printer, and a scanner. The rooms are exclusively for use by medical students, and are most often used for Internet access. Each student is allowed to use the systems for one hour a day, and usage centers mainly around accessing up-to-date scientific information on the web.
Five more of the donated systems (including 4 from the above list) are installed in the medical library and are used both by students and academic staff for Internet access.
There are plans to use the router/access server provided by SAF to operate 16 dial-in lines for remote access, and to increase the connection bandwidth.
