The Science and Arts Foundation (SAF) works towards a world where the youth of the developing world attain opportunities for education similar to those enjoyed in the developed world.
The foundation provides the following services:
School Computer Sites: SAF's general policy is to select model state schools in deprived areas and provide them with modern computer sites and Internet access. During three years of activities in Iran, SAF has completed this project for 110 schools, educational institutions, and non-governmental community organizations in Iran and Armenia. Projects are ongoing to equip schools in 10 cities across Iran.
School Information Centers: These centers act as Internet service providers and technical support centers for schools under the foundation's coverage. Additionally, they train teachers in Information Technology and the Internet, and download major educational and cultural websites around the globe for use by school children in Iran. Each center also organizes Internet based collaborative projects between schools in scientific, environmental, cultural, and artistic areas.
To date, SAF has set up five School Information Centers in Tehran (at Sharif University of Technology), Kashan (at Kashan University), Rasht (at Guilan University), Mazandaran, and Ahvaz.
Research and Education: SAF has contributed to, or initiated other projects in Iran as well - among them, donation of thousands of books to schools and educational libraries, and support of a number of Internet based research projects, among them, a Survey of the Iranian Internet, Persian digital libraries, the Farsiweb project, Robocup, and the Good Hopes project linking US and Iranian schools.
